After cancelling the first game of the season due to snow, the Lady Badgers were anxious to get their first game under their belt.
The first half started slow for the Badgers but their ability to control the pace of play and constant pressure led to numerous chances. It would take deep into the first 40 minutes when Sophomore Nicole Raiss would bang a header into the back of the net of an Emma Alvarez corner kick.
Heading into the second half the Badger pressure would lead to two quick Lily Jensen goals off of assists from Sawyer Magnett and Emma Alvarez. “After Lily’s brace and with our possession taking over the game everything seemed to slow down for the girls and they dominated from that point”, commented Coach Campuzano. Sawyer Magnett would score the fourth goal off a rebound shot from Jensen. Riley Petkovich would tally her first varsity goal of her career on a nice feed from Alexa Sell and Emma Alvarez would finish the scoring with an unassisted left footed shot that was slowed nicely into the left side of the goal.
“These desire that this team has is incredible. I was able to get time for the new players and there was no noticeable drop off in play. They understand that there is a lot of work to do but if the way they fought tonight is any indication of our season, I know they will continue to have success”, stated Coach Campuzano.
The Badger travel to play Saguaro High School next Tuesday and Seton Catholic High School on Friday.
